Freedman has created a compelling story, weaving a relentless chase with modern concerns over identity and the nature of reality. If you are looking for something to make you think and also make you scared, this is for you. I read it over a few days and found myself constantly coming back to get another 'fix'. It certainly isn't predictable!
Without giving too much away, the start takes you right into the story and it is only as you begin to piece the different characters and their worlds together that you realise this is a book that makes you work a little to understand what is going on, rather than just lay everything out at a slow pace.
The London setting is vivid and gives a convincing grounding for some challenging ideas of how a small change in technology could make a very different world in the near future. This is a great mix of sci-fi and horror genres, with believable people in unique situations. More' greasy burger' than `nouvelle cuisine', but all the more tasty for it.
